This piece merges architectural precision with artistic expression through a central spine that functions structurally and as a concealed lighting element. Waterjet-cut from solid 18-gauge steel, the piece comprises delicate front and larger rear wings designed to capture and reflect light dynamically. The central spine houses the light source, creating a mysterious glow that emits solely from the sides, accentuating its ethereal quality. Despite the weight of steel, carefully crafted perforations, fine details, and the wing-like geometry convey an unexpected lightness and fluidity, with shadows adding depth to the composition.
Metalworking techniques, including precise bending and spot welding, establish the structure while maintaining a seamless appearance. The interplay of light and shadow is further enhanced by CircuitPython-controlled lighting, lending interactivity and a sense of life to the work. These combined methods illustrate a harmonious balance between material integrity, machine precision, and artistic vision.
